Affinis.ai (WIP)

Affinis.ai is solving the language learning barrier that a non English speaker encounters as he engages with a completely new language system

Role - Product Design, UIUX

Team - Solo Designer

The Problem

Dictionaries help users find meanings, but fail to help them understand and use words in context, especially non-native English speakers.

Non-native English speakers often rely on multiple tools, Going back forth from one tool to another is not helpful.

Research

Before designing the solution. I interviewed and did a survey of 72 non-native English to understand:

● How they currently learn new words
● Where existing tools fall short
● What creates confusion and Hesitation

Finiding

A survey of 72 non-native English speakers revealed that:

● Dictionaries are frequently used but rarely sufficient
● Users struggle with contextual understanding and usage
● Learning often requires switching between multiple tools

Target Audience

● Students improving English for education
● Working professionals using English daily
● Non-native speakers seeking clarity and confidence

Ai as an Assisting force

The goal is to use AI as a supportive layer—not the centerpiece of the product—quietly assisting the learning experience rather than dominating it.

Affinis.ai is an ongoing product exploration.
The current work establishes a clear UX foundation, while future iterations will continue to explore how AI can support understanding, context, and confidence in language learning.
